A zero environmental impact event. This is the goal that the FIAB (Italian Federation Friends of Bicycle) has set for its national cycling meeting which will take place from Monday 20th to Sunday 26th of June, in the Tuscan Maremma. This is the 28th edition of an event dedicated to families and to environmental sustainability.
The event will touch areas of great historic and landscape value, and it will be organized in collaboration with Legambiente. (To participate click here).
It is no coincidence that the organization has chosen the province of Grosseto: here two of the long-range routes of Bicitalia’s national network intersect, the Tyrrhenian sea Cycleway and the Grosseto-Fano Two Seas’ Cycleway. For the occasion they have selected routes that can bring to life cycle tourism’s experiences, with bike trips in the symbolic places of Maremma. There will also be meetings and opportunities to learn about cycling issues.
To achieve "zero environmental impact" it will be necessary to respect a series of parameters, which range from a short distribution chain for food and beverages supply to waste disposal, until the measurement of the emissions and their compensation. Each day of the Cycling meeting will be dedicated to a specific theme related to Maremma: food and wine quality production, the Etruscans and ancient history, coastal areas and the sea, the forgotten railways, the farm traditions, the swamp and the reclamation.
Participants can choose various paths designed to meet every need: short for families, medium and long for more experienced cyclists, mountain bikes’ for off-road enthusiasts.
The event is organized with 'Week' and 'Weekend' formulas. The 'week' formula provides cycling proposals that will start from Monday 20th and will last for the whole week: this formula is dedicated to cyclists who, taking advantage of the national meeting, want to enjoy a most articulate bicycle holiday with longer bike tours. The 'weekend' formula, however, it is the classic one for cycling meetings, and it will begin on Thursday, June 23th with the official opening ceremony of the event.
