Cycling at the first light of day, sliding silently through the streets of the city as the world awakens:
this is the essence of the SunriseBike Ride, an unusual and successful event that allows cyclists of all ages to enjoy a non-competitive ride starting at dawn and going through some Italian cities, discovering their natural, historical, and cultural beauties at a particularly evocative time of day.
The route runs in an urban environment for about an hour (10/12 km) and is completely on cycle paths and roads, which means it can be travelled by any type of bicycle. The track maximizes the beauty of the city, with no obstacles to overcome and at a speed that is perfect to enjoy the trip, away from noise and traffic.
The event is open to everyone, including children.
After the success of the last editions, the 2018 tour of the Sunrise Bike Ride will touch three important cities such as Bologna, Milan, and Turin, whose historic centres will be animated by numerous cyclists at the very first hours of the day.
The 1st stage in Bologna is scheduled for Sunday, May 27th, starting at the green ‘heart’ of the city, the Margherita Gardens, at 5.35 am.
The 2nd stage will be in Milan, on Sunday June 10th, with the meeting and departure point in Piazza Gae Aulenti at 5.35 am.
The last stage will be in Turin, on Sunday September 16th, starting at 6 am from Piazza Carlo Alberto.
Participants will be accompanied by volunteer guides who will also act as tour guides, recounting historical anecdotes and fun facts about the most evocative places admired during the ride.
All events are limited to a set number of people (max 1,000 participants) and booking is therefore mandatory: you can register through the official website (www.sunrisebikeride.it) or by going to the official points in the cities involved.
The cost of registration is 10 Euros for adults (from 13 years old onward) and 2 Euros for children (6-12 years old).
The cost includes participation, the kit with the official t-shirt and various gadgets from the sponsors, access to the end-of-trip refreshment stand, and insurance.
An important novelty of the 2018 edition is the confirmation of the organizational partnership between SunriseBike Ride and CBM ITALIA ONLUS, to which a part of the enrolment fee of each participant is devolved to help support projects targeting the prevention and cure of blindness in poor countries.
The project – born in Bologna in 2014 with the aim of enhancing cycling in urban areas, rediscovering the beauty of Italian cities at an unusual time such as sunrise – is managed by the sports association Ciclista Urbano ASD.
The success was immediate: since the first editions, hundreds of people have participated in the individual stages, sharing the spirit of the project oriented to a simple and healthy lifestyle.
