"L' Eroica", a jump into the old cycling

The 5th of October will take part one of the most fascinating event of the cycling. It’s called L’Eroica, and it’s located in Gaiole in Chianti (Siena).

For those who still do not know it, L'Eroica is a cycling event that took place for the first time in 1997 and it has the distinction of evoking the cycling of the past, with trails that take place largely on white roads with vintage bikes.

Giancarlo Brocci organized for the first time this event.

The event is open to everyone but only those who participate to the race with a vintage bike will get the Eroici diploma.

The vintage bikes need to be peculiar to the racing bike used until the eighties.

The paths are four and they are 38, 75, 135 and 205 km long.  They are around the Chianti area along Siena and Valdorcia until Montalcino. There are several “mangiaebevi” and also hard climbs to deal with vintage bikes.

The start is in “french style”, which means it’s free within a determined time beginning at the sunrise.

Controls of the steps are for punching and a final ranking will not be drawn but it gives in alphabetical order the hour of departure and arrival of each contestant.

There are a lot of very particular restaurants on the trail. They serve typical local products like meat, wine and cheese. Banned the nutritional supplements…

The real show is made from all the contestants that race with each other. They don’t want to arrive first but try to immerse themselves in the role of antique cyclists using clothes and objects.

The entry to the event are already close this year but if you want to become Eroico you can still go through the path because it’s open all year.

In order to have an active holiday of pure cycling along a territory rich of beautiful food, wine, culture and landscapes.

However, worth attend to the event at least one in your life. The opportunities are a lot also abroad because L’Eroica became famous in all over the World. Also in USA and Japan.
