The Majella Park in Abruzzo is the wonderful scenery where the Wolftour tour operator acts.
In this precious area, heritage of flora and fauna (wolves, bears, otters, deers, eagles live here…), the outdoor sporting finds its natural habitat.
Antonio Stroveglia, Technical Director of Wolftour, leads us to know the activities offered by this Agency from Abruzzo, that brings to Italy many foreign tourists.
A little bit of your history: when were you born and how your activity developed?
Wolftour was born in 2011 as an online tour operator, then we opened to public in 2012 with the double nature of travel agency and tour operator. In 2013 we opened an headquarter at the “G.Liberi” International Airport of Pescara to give an assistance service especially for the hosts arriving from London, Paris, Frankfurt and Barcelona.
Through the years, the society has grown exponentially in terms of sales and dimension: nowadays it has many collaborators in Italy and abroad.
The tour operator activity, mainly focused on the active tourism, is growing and it includes promotion and marketing of touristic packages, excursions, rental service of the equipment for activities as cross-country skiing, Nordic walking, mountain bike and e-bike, and transfers.
Furthermore, Wolftour is one of the major players of the ‘DMC Gran Sasso, L’Aquila and Terre Vestine’, of whom it cures the touristic products catalogue and it constantly participates to projects of local development.
You do both outdoor sporting and enogastronomic activities, do they have different type of audience or they have something in common?
We always try to promote an offer as targeted as we can, but also complete and variegated: targets are different, but for sportive people there is often the chance to propose a taste of typical products, and also for the food lovers is appreciated a walk or a bike ride.
What are your musts, the proposals that have more success?
Of course the activities strictly linked to nature, specially connected to the mountain environment: trekking at Campo Imperatore, cross-country skiing on the Voltigno, Nordic-walking in the Parks, wildlife observation in the protected areas. We also have some laboratorial activities and food tasting that highlights the local artisanal and gastronomic excellences.
From your point of view the active tourism is growing in Italy, do you have requests from abroad too? If yes, from which countries?
Foreign requests are growing. Currently we work a lot with Anglo-Saxon and German customers, but also with francophone people (France, Switzerland, Canada) and people from the United States.
In the last months, also thanks to some educational tours organized since 2013, we have opened the East-European market (Hungary, Poland and others Balkan countries).
What is Italy missing from a legislative and organizational point of view, in order to attract a bigger flow of presences in this area?
The laws for the tourism regulation are not missing in Italy, but often they aren’t applied and there is a lot of space for abusiveness which penalizes those tour operators that, like us, fight for the common respect of the laws.
Abusiveness damages those who work honestly and it determine a reduction of the services’ quality. As far as the organizational aspect, the actual usability of tourist services, promoted with documents by many institution and association, is missing. In fact, these tourist services are not very easily achievable in practice.
How is the request of active tourism changed from when you were born until now?
The request is more focused: the active tourist knows exactly what he is looking for and he wants a service that fits his needs.
What kind of future development do you predict or hope for you Agency?
We predict a further growth of our activity that could create occupation and benefits in the local contest where we operate. We hope to see our market extending more and more, in a national and local direction, thanks to the many projects that we are doing, like abroad events, educational tour for foreign operators, participation in fairs regarding our sector in Italy and Europe.
We are developing a physical and virtual platform to do research on the tourism, working on the intangible assets and on the physical, economical and procedural modalities of monitoring brought to realize promotion and marketing actions.
