Rome: the streets of the Jubilee ... are endless!
HOLY YEAR, BETWEEN FAITH AND SACRED ROUTES

Not only faith. But also nature, art, history, flavors. The Jubilee inspires who love to travel on foot or by bike: the journey that leads to the sanctuaries in our beautiful country is beyond spirituality to give discoveries, emotions, treasures and meetings.

The excursionist will meet the medieval villages of Italy and the great art cities, can count on welcoming stages and on the proposals launched by the regions for the Holy Year, with the recovery of historical routes that recall the steps of the ancient pilgrims. In short, in addition to the abbeys and the Holy Doors, there are green oasis, popular traditions, streets full of treasures.

Starting with Lazio, there are one thousand kilometers affected by a redevelopment project and intended for those who want to reach  the city of the martyrs Peter and Paul.

Four major routes proposed: the North Via Francigena (starting from Proceno, on the border with Tuscany), the South Francigena (from Rome to Minturno and Cassino, on the border with Campania and Molise), the Route of Saint Benedict and the Route of Saint Francis.

And yet, thematic routes like the Abbeys Way, the Network of the Holy Doors, the paths related to penance, to the stories of the Saints and to the pilgrimage traditions. An immense heritage that is meant to become a  "system", as explained by the governor of the Lazio region, Nicola Zingaretti, with the aim of "making these paths fully accessible and making the reception the common guiding principle".

HOLY YEAR, BETWEEN FAITH AND SACRED ROUTES
ROME: THE PILGRIMS WAYS ARE ENDLESS...

In detail, only in Rome have just been opened "The Jubilee cultural routes", 20 city paths that are immersed in 20 centuries of history, art and religions: 330 stages ranging from the center to the suburbs, through incomparable views and sacred places, from the tombs of Peter and Paul to the martyrs places, from the Emperor Constantine to the obelisks, the aqueducts and the fountains.

Designed by the Ministry of Tourism, "The Jubilee cultural routes" have a dedicated portal and 100 thousand maps distributed in public information points. "This important work that allows you to watch Rome with new eyes - promised the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Dario Franceschini - will not end with the Jubilee but it will be part of a wider project about Italy’s paths and routes".

Each route follows a theme: the life of a Saint, a martyr or a poet, an artist's masterpieces, the great imperial works, Jubilees of the past, the signs of the three major monotheistic religions. At each stage of each itinerary is dedicated a detailed file with relevant information, a historical description and a suggestive picture.

Among the proposals’ merits, also that to bring tourists-pilgrims in the suburbs, looking for little-known treasures. A novelty, because the minister Franceschini plans to launch, as soon as possible, "20 routes in suburban areas: beautiful places that inattentive eyes, however, can’t see."

Actually, cyclists and excursionsists can already experience the Roman tours that exploit the bike and parks’ paths, such as the Appia Antica’s (arriving in the suburbs of  Quadraro, historic district today known for street art), the Caffarella Park (touching the Colosseum, the Caracalla baths and Porta San Sebastiano) and the Aqueducts park (across the Roman countryside). Without neglecting the tour in the old town that counts on areas closed to traffic: the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Castel Sant'Angelo and, on Sundays, the area of the Imperial Forums.

In other words, the pilgrims’ ways are endless, especially in Rome!
