ZERO IMPACT ON THE ALPES SNOW
ALPINE PEARLS, NATURE AND SUSTAINABILITY

Sport, mountain, environment: on the Alps there is someone who, for almost ten years, has been trying to create an  “eco-friendly” holiday model. The  Alpine Pearls are 27 alpine places in six Countries, that in January 2006 created an association for the European projects “AlpsMobility”. The challenge was to create new tourist offers in the sign of sustainability and climate protection.

First rule: no car. Every Pearl offers shuttle service, taxi on call and free skibus, in addition to electric vehicles, e-bikes, segways and velo-taxi. Once solved the transfer problem, all you have to do is choose among the several opportunities for a holiday in the sign of sport and nature.

Let’s see some example, starting from the west: Ceresole Reale, on the Piedmont  side of the National Park Gran Paradiso, is not only an environmental paradise, but also a natural gym for those who love climbing and alpine ski. The most “extreme” person should try the ascent on the ice falls: seven freezing cathedrals (also the artificial gym X-Ice Park), illuminated until 23. More “relaxed” ones - but still adventurous tourists - should not miss the night-time hiking to discover the mountains most intimate secrets, but also the local food and wine tradition.

From Piedmont to Lombardy: the Pearl of Valdidentro offers the whole range of winter activities (alpine and cross-country skiing, walks with huskies, snow shoes), giving also the chance to end the day relaxing the aching muscles in Bormio Spa. About sustainable mobility, the skipass for the “Four Valleys” district can be used as a ticket for all public transports of Alta Valtellina.

Among the pearls of Trento, there is Tires, at the bottom of Catinaccio Mount, where you can cross woods and fields using snow shoes.
The place offers packages that include stay, day trips and Mobilcard Alpe di Siusi Live.

In Moso in Passiria, South Tyrol, mobility is not only “sweet”, but also evocative: worth trying the winter train Dorfexpress, to fast reach ski slopes and not only. From the Grunbodenhutte hut, for example, you can launch yourself in a 3,5 km long descent on a little sled. Between all the emotions, it is worth having a cultural break: the Bunker Museum is a trip to discover nature and history of the Alta Val Passiria (High Passiria Valley), inside a bunker from the 40’s.

Here is a complete list of the Alpine Pearls:
