Alps, ibexes and…Snowshoes!
Walking with the snowshoes on the enchanted mountain

The Gran Paradiso National Park is an Italian natural environment of great beauty. Here is like to be inside a winter fairy tale, among forests and snowflakes, wearing snowshoes and trying a winter sport which is different from the ski. On walk.

Located in the Alps, between Piedmont and Aosta Valley, this National Park is also famous to be the “alpine ibex’s reign” and it was recently included in the Green List of protected areas.

Excursions with snowshoes are perfect for those who are looking for a holiday far away from the bustle of people, in snow-covered surreal and outdoor spaces.

It is not just a sport, it is also a reinvigorating and fun activity suitable both for athletes and families.  In fact, alpine guides and trekking associations are available to help people choosing the perfect itinerary (different difficulty and length), equipment and clothing (ski poles, hiking boots, gaiters and winter apparel).

Except off tracks, “walking” on the snow along beaten paths doesn’t need any skill and everyone can do it.

Therefore, the “snowshoeing” is the perfect activity for lovers of slow sports and the great beauty of the alpine landscape during the winter.

In the Gran Paradiso National Park there is also a calendar full of initiatives in prospect of Christmas; hoping on a winter long and full of snow.

One of the most important activity is the “Giroparco Gran Paradiso” which is a trail going along Colle del Nivolet, Ceresole Reale, Colle Larissa and Valprato Soana with eight stages and a connection with the valley floor. It is 91 km long and the difference in altitude is 6920 meters.

Among winter proposals, there is one called “di villaggio in villaggio” (from town to town), with three weekends on the snowshoes in company with Emilia Berthod, farmer of medicinal herbs and ambassadress of the Park. The price of these excursions is 15/20 euro, rental equipment included.

Also Raffaele Collavo from Vda Explorer (nature and walking guide and ambassador of the Park) proposes excursions discovering the Valle di Rhêmes, with tea break or typical dinner, or having the opportunity to visit the Lake Dres on the snowshoes during the night (with Stefano Dalla Gasperina) or even celebrate the New Year’s Eve on the fluffy snow of the Orco Valley, waiting for the midnight in the light of hundreds torches (possibility to book it in the Gran Paradiso Hotel or La Cascata di Noasca at the price of 25 euro per person).

All activities and packages are made in cooperation with Districts, municipal tourist boards and local associations, operators with the “Marchio di Qualità Gran Paradiso” and Ambassadors of the Park and Fondation Grand Paradis.

And if you want to discover more about every offers, just click on the official website of the Park or – for the most social – on the Facebook page which has more than 68.000 fans (it is the most followed Italian Park on Social Networks).

Also online the Gran Paradiso National Park can get a lot of “likes”.
