Do you have in mind a perfect scenario as background for a foot race? Try with the Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage Site. In particular, for those who have been there, let focus on the scenario that Alpe di Siusi (Siusi’s Alp) offers: the largest plateau’s natural landscapes in Europe.
The race is the 4th edition of the Alpe di Siusi Half Marathon, scheduled on July 3rd: 21 km to run through mountain farms, green forests, breathtaking landscapes and the elegant rocky lines of the Dolomites.
The view offered by mount Sasso Piatto, mount Sassolungo, mounts Denti di Terrarossa and mount Sciliar will be the perfect backdrop for the more than 700 athletes and fans (the number of participants for this year's edition, since the great demand, was increased by 200 people) who will compete on ups and downs at high altitude, running on a path that climbs on a vertical drop of 601 meters and reaches 2,200 meters at its highest point. The first three kilometers are on paved road, while the rest of the track - leaving (10 am) and arriving in Compaccio - consists of dirt roads and forest paths.
The Alpe di Siusi Half Marathon is also stands out for its ecological mark, which is why the Autonomous Province of Bolzano has certified it as “Green Event” also this year.
Among over 100 candidates, the event was in fact awarded at the "Green Events Austria Gala 2014 and 2015" in Vienna, with a special recognition for the category "sport events", dedicated to the events that have distinguished themselves thanks to their sustainable criteria.
Before the marathon you can train and keep fit along the 180 kilometers that compose the Alpe di Siusi Running Park’s 20 tracks, a grid that winds in the Dolomites’ natural realm and attracts renowned athletes and professionals.
For the occasion, in fact, they have organized the Alpe di Siusi Running Weeks, 2 weeks dedicated to physical activities and mental relaxation, with the privilege to get ready and participate in the engaging walking race.
The Running Weeks are scheduled from June 26 to July 3 and from July 2 to 9 and include: 7 nights in a facility in the Alpe di Siusi’s holiday area, the registration fee to the Half Marathon, the race package with gadgets and typical products, and the Running Park Alpe di Siusi’s booklet.
For those who want to get ready, in addition, there are the Training Holidays by Fulvio Massini, from 29 June to 3 July 2016, and the Running Zen stage by Ignazio Antonacci from 9 to 16 July 2016: two weeks to experience different activities, such as trekking excursions, mountain biking and moments of mental relaxation, in close contact with the Dolomites’ natural world .
