The best way to discover Turin is the sport

The chief town of Piedmont, Turin, this year has become the European capital of sport, the home of champions and winning teams.

The mayor and president of the ANCI (National Association of Italian Towns), Piero Fassino, always reminds that here have been founded the Club Alpino Italiano and the Canottieri Cerea (1863), which is the most ancient Italian rowing club, the Reale Società Ginnastica (1844), the Rowing Club Italiano (the current Italian Rowing Federation, in 1888).

Here has been introduced the compulsory physical education in the schools, and in 1898 took place the first official Association Football League System in Italy at the Velodrome Humbert I, with the teams of Internazionale F.C. Torino, F.B.C. Torinese, R.S. Ginnastica Torino and Genoa.

At the beginning of the twentieth century was born the Motorclub Torino, the Motorclub d’Italia and, in 1935, was inaugurated the “Circuit of  Valentino” for a race in which participated the great champion Tazio Nuvolari.

Anyway, the history of sport in Turin is long more than one century and a half, that continues with the great Winter Olympic Games of 2006, and this year, with the assignment to European capital.

Several are the appointments of international races which will take place in Turin but, in addition to this, there will be a big project of sports culture suitable to all. Starting from the children in the schools, with 50 thousands courses of different disciplines organized by the city, to older people, who have the opportunity from now on to use for free the Tazzoli sports facilities, the Monumentale swimming pool and the Primo Nebiolo stadium.

Furthermore, all of it is located really close to the EXPO in Milan, that will start the 1st of May 2015.

But that’s not all. Also the Gran Paradiso National Park is celebrating the assignment of Turin with a schedule full of activities, which will take place in Ceresole Reale during the first appointments of the year.

This town is one of the Italian  “Alpine Pearls” (the 27 places located in the Alps that are considered “jewels” of the touristic offers in the mountain) and it proposes to all enthusiasts of the snow sports to spend two days - Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of February - with the famous cross-country Olympic Champion Stefania Belmondo. After the excursions with the cross-country skiing instructors (open also to children and beginners), Stefania Belmondo will tell her story and she will give lessons with demonstrations in all different techniques of this sport.

For those who won’t be able to participate, for all this month there will be organized guided excursions with snowshoes along the trails of the Park, together with food tastes, readings and lessons about the snow and its secrets. There’s also the opportunity to do some beautiful excursions under the moonlight. And of course, if you are a food lovers, why not to take a break with a warm plate of "polenta"?

Just don’t forget the binoculars, your camera, a good appetite and your great…passion
