HOW TO BE 'ALPINE FARMERS' AT THE SUNRISE

During this technological era in which people spend a lot of time surfing on internet, a good idea to escape from urban frenzy can be represented by the ‘Alpe Cimbra’ proposal: two days immersed in alpine farms (‘malghe’ for the Italians), milking cows at the sunrise and walking among the green fields of Folgaria and Lavarone towns.

‘Albe in Malga’ (Dawns in 'Malga') is not an experiment, but a real initiative tooking place this year thanks to the high number of requests: it includes four appointments between the months of June and August. The alpine farms will open the doors to the outside world, and there will be the opportunity to assist and participate at the cheese production in its natural environment.

Every sunrise will be special because, in addition to follow the whole milk production, will also be organized excursions with alpine guides. Every morning will end with a rich breakfast, both sweet and salty, with eggs and cheese, cold cuts, bread and homemade cakes.

The first ‘dawn’ to admire will be on Saturday 27th of June in the beautiful location of ‘Malga Vallorsara’, which becomes an historical reference point in the tradition of Alpe Cimbra.

The meeting is on Friday 26th (at 6pm) at the locality of Ortesino, to reach, after one hour of walk, the mountain pastures. The farmers Mirella and Armando (guardians of the culinary tradition and  ancient rural ‘rituals’) will serve the dinner. It will be a ‘trip inside the trip’, enjoying tastes of the Trentino local cooking while the night surrounds the ‘malga’.

The next day starts, of course, during the sunrise. Everyone has to wake up at 6am, to bring cows to pasture and go ahead with milking. To have a rest after this hard early morning, there is a great breakfast with homemade cheeses and cold cuts.

After that, it is time to ‘make’ the cheese: the local farmers will teach you how make the ‘Tosella’, a daily fresh cheese prepared with whole milk, in order to maintain the fresh fragrance of the high-altitude pastures herbs.

Around 10am, it’s time to discover all beauties of Vallorsara and amazing views of Alpe Cimbra together with an alpine guide. The tour allow you to visit ‘Coe pass’, a wide and suggestive plain located at 1600 meters of altitude, in which to have lunch in an old tavern.

The magic of the sunrise will happen again the 16-17th of July and the 7-8th of August, always in Vallorsara.

Instead, on 27th and 28th of August, excursions will move in ‘Malga Millegrobbe di Sopra’ with departure from Luserna, the village of the ancient cimbra language which today is still spoken by the local population.

The panoramic trekking will bring all tourists until ‘Forte Lusérn’ and the outposts of Viaz and Oberwiesen from where, during the Great War, the flat space of ‘Malga Campo’ was controlled.
