Naturalistic researches, wildlife surveys, ecotourism and environmental education. When science meets nature’s beauty. Diatomea Natural Study deals with this, a company founded in 2008 in Senigallia, now it is one of the liveliest reality in Marche’s industry. The idea came from Niki Morganti and Francesca Morici, both graduated in Natural Sciences and nature/hike guides.
Diatomea offers multi-day excursions and treks, not only to tourists but also to Marche’s citizens, to discover Marche’s beauty and natural features, often concluding the walks with excellent food and wine tasting (Truffle, 'Casciotta' cheese, Norceria and Verdicchio).
Let’s overlook environmental studies, conservation projects and research - monitoring programs and let’s take a look into Diatomea’s excursion activities. "They are all activities connected to each other - explain Morganti and Morici - Environmental education, popular science, ecotourism: it is important to know and appreciate the territory where we live, it is a value of basic importance. Environmental education together with divulgation activities are the first step towards nature and its resources’ knowledge and respect. We also organize excursions and trekking to discover Marche’s natural attractions and much more".
Just take a look at their website (www.studiodiatomea.it) and you will see a series of very interesting proposals.
"Until mid-March, every weekend, we go snowshoeing in the Marche’s mountains, in particular in the Sibillini Mountains - Diatomea emphasizes - We will have the masked-snowshoeing for Carnival Day and one at sunset. For Valentine's Day we have organized an excursion to Lame Rosse, a Sibillini’s geological formation, to bring together people who share the hiking passion. Moreover, we try to promote not only natural parks but also ‘what we have near our houses’, and in Senigallia means a beautiful rural landscape: so we are doing walks in the countryside and along the river Misa too".
That’s not all. February 6th is the "Wetlands World Day" and Diatomea offers an exciting excursion to the mouth of the river Misa for an afternoon birdwatching to raise awareness about the importance of aquatic habitats for birds. For the “Darwin Day” (February 12th) it is scheduled a dinner with a paleontologist who during the evening will talk about Darwin’s passion and the studies about fossils that contributed to the development of his evolution’s theory.
The following week, on February 19th, Diatomea adheres to "M'illumino di meno" (less lights up), an event organized by Radio 2 transmission Caterpillar with the aim of raising awareness on energy-saving, with a night excursion in the countryside to listen to the song of the owls, with final in a petting zoo for dinner.
"Our tours range everywhere in Marche: in particular we focus on natural parks, especially the Sibillini National Park, the Conero Park and the San Bartolo Park - members of Diatomea say - We don’t just visit the protected areas: we also organize walks on Mount Catria, Mount Nerone, Mount Strega and, as described above, in the surroundings of Senigallia.
We love our land, Senigallia and its environments, and we are helping to enhance the rural landscape, the valley of the Misa and the Lands of Frattula: with the collaboration of mills, wineries, farms and facilities, we are organizing more and more events and excursions that lead to understand the environmental features that we experience every day... often without even realizing it or giving it for granted! So our walks arrive to Lake Pilato, Lame Rosse, Lupo mountain pass, Hams Caves, Selva di Montedoro, the hamlets of Scapezzano and Roncitelli, the Fossil Forest of Valcesano ... ".
