Everyone likes the shared trip by car, especially if it’s cheap and green! A new “social way” is BlaBlaCar, the french network really popular also among the Italian community

A new way to do hitch-hiking is coming. No more thumbs up by the roadside: from now on, if you need a lift you can find it online, living a modern experience of social travel.    

It is demonstrated by the success of “BlaBlaCar”, the French online platform which today put into contact millions of drivers with travelers who want to reach the same destination. 

We are talking about long trips (more than 100 km), and travelers contribute paying a quote. The price is directly calculated by the online platform.

Also in Italy the ride sharing is really popular and a research shows that among more than 5.000 people, those who choose this kind of activity are, for the most, people of thirty years old, lovers of technology, respectful of the nature and careful to the saving.

Andrea Saviane, county manager Italia of BlaBlaCar, says: «The age group and the income of people who do ride sharing is higher than what we expected. Among data who astonished us more, there’s the “pass the word on”. The 99% of interviewed suggested the ride sharing to other people. It is an extraordinary result because it shows the great potential of an innovative travel solution, and Italian people are really enthusiast about it».

 

Italian people who travel by using a ride sharing have a medium age of 31 years old (76% between 18 and 40 years old, 16% between 41 and 50 years old). 71% of them have a job (in particular employees and freelance professionals) and almost all of them are “smart”: always connected on Internet, they do shopping online and have a smartphone, proving that collaborative and computerized consumption are well connected. 

The reason why people prefer the ride sharing rather than other travel solution is because it’s cheaper and green. Which is an important data considering that every passengers could use another vehicle on the same route, increasing CO2 emissions. 

As explains Alberto Di Minin - researcher of the Sant’Anna High School and scientific coordinator of the project - BlaBlaCar is an example of how Social Networks are changing  lifestyles, spreading the sharing economy in particular in the Center and North of Italy. 

BlaBlaCars has more than 10 million members and thousands destinations in all Europe. It is one of the examples of the sharing economy. The app and the website are available in ten languages and thirteen States

 

How does it works? After every trip, you can leave a feedback, judging the experience and travel companions. These reviews give faith and allow to choose also people never met before. Profiles and users are always verified. For women there is also the “pink trip”, in which you have the opportunity to travel only with other women.  

In fact, the website always tries to create the “ideal spirit” for the trip, also specifying preferences between smokers and non smokers, pets permitted in the car or not, and also the grade of “volubility” choosing among three levels: “Bla”, “BlaBla”, “BlaBlaBla”.

How you can understand just reading the name, this community is full of people who love to share their experiences in a loud voice.

During a trip, the “pass the word on” always works.
