Expo countdown is a firework. Crazy rushing for tickets, and never-ending lines to not miss Milan’s great opportunity, closing on October 31st. And the menu is full of attractions, also outside exposition spaces.
Among the protagonists of this happy ending there is also the white truffle of San Miniato’s Hills and Crete Senesi. Under the direction of Tuscany and the ''City of Truffle'' National Association, on October 27th, they will celebrate the finest variety of this precious land product and this will take place nearby the Duomo in the heart of Milan (Via Daverio n .7).
Two tasting sessions planned, one guided and the other one free, to learn more about the two most famous Tuscan villages for a long time committed in exploiting white truffle: San Miniato and San Giovanni d'Asso. One in the north (in San Miniato’s hills, near Pisa) and the other in the south (in Crete Senesi), they have the oldest food festivals, a tradition carried on for 45 years by the first village and for 30 by the second.
It will be a delicious preview to tempt vacationers and launch an invitation to spend a "bite-and-learn" autumn weekend, along the flavors’ streets of Tuscany.
From Saturday November 7th , to Sunday December 6th, gourmet-vacationers will have five weekends to walk immersed in flavors and tastes between the stands of truffle’s exhibitions-market in San Giovanni d'Asso (second and third weekends of November) and San Miniato (from the third weekend of November to the first weekend of December).
Do not miss the November 14th - 15th ‘s weekend, when the two food festivals will coincide, for a double tour in these small flavors’ capitals that, in addition to truffle, will show their best culinary traditions: wine, oil, cheese, salami and honey.
To get a better idea, San Miniato, during the days of the festival, is one of the largest ''open air '' taste laboratories in Italy, surrounded by the beauty of squares and easy to be reached thanks to a shuttle service that allow many visitors (more than one hundred thousand in the latest edition) to arrive in town.
In San Giovanni d'Asso, in the heart of Crete Senesi, you get between clays and ravines, between the landscapes of one of the most beautiful Tuscan’s countryside. Or, going back in time, you can choose to get on the “Nature Train'' that, driven by a vintage steam locomotive, follows a forgotten railroad until the slopes of Mount Amiata.
Here holiday has a “slow rhythm”, immersed in a daily life of a medieval village who preserve a rural soul and many trekking or cycling paths stretched between farms, wineries and oil mills.
In addition to truffle production, the two Tuscan villages are also connected to each other by the Via Francigena. The road traveled over the centuries by pilgrims from all over Europe passed from the historic center of the Pisan village and, descending south towards Siena, arrived in Grancia di Montisi (a suburb of Crete Senesi) an important welcome and refreshment point.
Always in the golden heart of Crete Senesi, there is another appointment not to be missed: the launch of the Autumn Festival in Asciano, on October,25th. In the "Land of Courtesy" (a title deserved for its inhabitants’ kindness) they are planning a day full of flavor and fun, to discover and know better the secrets of the truffle, the king of food products.
Since the morning its scent will invade the streets of the center to the delight of gourmets vacationers who will have the chance to get to Siena aboard vintage railcars.
The discovery of this tuber’s secrets then moves on the field with a research simulation, in the countryside. For those who want to discover Asciano’s artistic and historical treasures, as well as natural’s, there will be an urban trekking organized by the Tourist Office and accompanied by music and stands of local products.
